MULTI-SPINDLE LATHE RETROFITS
Sieb & Meyer America has designed a special software package for this market, and that software has been growing and improving for the past 15 years. Anywhere from a 1-axis slide up to (14) axes using 1- and 2-axis slides can be configured for a retrofit to a multi-spindle lathe. Typical machines are Acme, New Britain, Cone, and Wickman.
The control runs up to (10) separate program processes simultaneously. Besides the axis configurations, the built in PLC capability of the CNC can control the complete machine operation: spindle control, feed control, coolant, chip conveyor, and auxiliary devices on the machine requiring activation based on cam angle. Tool wear offsets, spindle carrier offset correction, and thermal compensation provide capability for greater accuracy than the original mechanical versions of these machines. Programming flexibility with graphic part path verification reduce setup times dramatically.
